Do you find yourself cringing when someone asks "what's your type?" It's totally common to feel constricted and pigeon-holed by the idea of a type. But what is a type and what does that really mean?  How can we use it to free us rather than hinder us? The "Owning Your Type" six-week workshop is a chance to explore what "your type" really is and how you can make it work for you rather than hinder you. This collaborative class will help you better understand how other people see you and how to use that to your advantage. By the end of the class, you will have a better grasp of your 'type,' as well as concrete material (like scenes and tape) to use with your marketing materials. This class will require some outside homework and research.

Do you hate when someone asks "what's your type?" It's totally common to feel constricted and pigeon-holed by the idea of typing yourself. But what is a type and what does that really mean?  How can we use it to free us rather than hinder us? The "Owning Your Type" six week workshop is a chance to reframe the idea of type, find out what yours is, learn how to make it work for you and how to incorporate that into your creative and professional life.  This collaborative class will help you better understand how other people see you and how to use that to your advantage. By the end of the class, you will have a better grasp of your 'type' as well as concrete material (like scenes, tape and branding ideas) to use with your marketing materials. This class will require some outside homework and research.

In this 4-week class you will learn the basics of sketch writing including structure, skills, comedy math and more to empower you to take your funny ideas and shape them into strongly crafted, hilarious performance pieces. Don’t have any funny ideas off the top of your head? No problem!  We will explore ways to help jumpstart your creative comedic juices. Always been curious about comedy writing, but it sounds intimidating? Fear not, our writer’s room/class room is an intentionally created and protected safe space for you to give it a try! In addition to sketch basics, this class will teach you tools and tricks to help build your creative confidence. Any good comedy writer has got to break some bad idea eggs in order to make great idea omelettes, and we’ll learn to combat and squash the fear of bad ideas together. Once you’ve learned the basics of sketch comedy, you can take them and run with them: film your own sketch in quarantine with other members of your pod! Write yourself a solo sketch show and live stream it! Start building your sketch portfolio!

Let’s laugh and create together!

(This session is open exclusively to those who identify as female or non-binary)
